Numbered paging is for bounded, addressable lists where a user might want page 7 again: history, invoices, shared links. Never for the file browser.
Collapse to … beyond 7 pages, keep first and last always reachable, and put the range summary on the opposite side from the controls.

03Infinite scrollthe file browser
The browser itself streams: rows append as the sentinel enters the viewport. The spinner is the only chrome, no page count, no "end of list" banner until the directory truly ends.
